First revision to the stats system
Before we moved Euroskillz to it's new servers and while we where working on a new webby and forum, a very long discussion was taking place, about the flaws of the stats system. It all started when a few people suggested changes to points on certain maps in this thread. This was done to prevent grinding a few 100 point maps in order to easy become the #1 in the Über score. A complete list of all points for all maps where posted and we soon realised the entire system was skewed and flawed. Many many maps where rated much harder than they actually are. The point ranges where also not evenly distributed. A few suggestions where made:
- When adding points let the difficulty be decided regarding to how many people who can finish the map
- Find a way to automatically decide points
- Change the amount of maps played to become Über to 1000 to prevent grinding 100 pointers.
- Change the scoring algoritms so for every time you finish the same map you get less and less points.
- Reset the entire database and start fresh, with updated difficulties and better stats algoritms
A complete overhaul of every maps difficulty and rewriting the code is a task that would take months to do. I dont think anyone of us feels like doing this or got the time needed. Resetting the database is also out of the question. The easiest solution right now is to change the amount of maps needed to become Über to 1000 maps. That means you need to finish at least 1000 maps before youre average difficulty is calculated.
This prevents grinding 100 pointers to become #1. If anyone dispite this would grind 1000 100 point maps I think they are in serious need of re-programming to a healthier way of using their computer.
This is not a final solution, but only a first easy step to solve this problem.
Sim suggested the idea of giving less and less points for each time you finish a map. I like this idea and it will be looked into.
The Über score will be changed shortly
